The Velvet Underground & Nico

This is one of those albumcovers that have become modern icons. Abbey Road of The Beatles is probably the only cover that is more famous than this one. The artwork is of course of Andy Warhol and the original release contained a banana that could be pealed. Of course that crazy idea did delay the release for quite some time, but it’s a nice and unique feature. Warhol did also produce this album. The story goes that the original recordings were a bit rougher than the version that (due to interference by the record company) saw daylight. Many years later an `original version’ was released with a green banana on the cover.

The album was a complete failure both in a commercial way and according to the critics, but today it counts as one of the most important and influential rockalbums of all time.
