Art Blakey – moanin’

blakey front

This cover photo of Buck Hoeffler is as simple and effective as you can get. But this is how i like my jazz-album covers the most: just the head or sometimes torse of the cat, maybe holding his horn or (even preferrable) smoking his pipe. Or like in this case: just te head, period. Capitals with name and albumtitle. That’s it. Good wine needs no bush.

And there sure is some good wine in this album: its one of the top modern jazz albums of the late 50’s and a must have for every jazz collector. The album has no weaker parts, but the titlesong, `along came betty’ and `blues march’ have especcially become alltime favorites. What can i say more, this is one of the greatest jazz albums ever, if you don’t have it yet go out and find your copy and buy it. No matter the costs 🙂
